Invasive Species Detection

The impacts of invasive species can be devastating to our native flora and fauna. We offer a range of invasive species detection and control methods, and can work with clients to:

  • Easily train novel scents for specific use cases
  • Detect and carry out surveillance activities for a species of interest
  • Monitor ‘invasion fronts’ before an invasive species becomes established (‘pre-incursion surveys’)
  • Monitor the effectiveness of interventions (‘post-control surveys’)
  • Develop and implement eradication programs.

As detection dogs can move through a landscape with minimal disturbance, animals that avoid human contact are more likely to be detected, and the spread of weeds can be minimised.

Our dogs are capable of detecting a range of invasive taxa, including weeds and feral predators (e.g., foxes, cane toads and feral cats).
